Tangram on tees!

Tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of 7 brilliant shapes, which are put together to form shapes or objects. This unique ancient Chinese puzzle consists of 5 triangles, 1 square and 1 parallelogram. Js love working with puzzles, and working with tangram was a first encounter for Jare last week. While Jazz is more seasoned with it as she plays in school.

The benefits of working with tangram is numerous. For their young tender age group, I would say they not only work with shapes recognition, there's also unlimited flow of creativity from it. The tangram can be arranged into an incredible amount of shapes, animals, everyday objects and whatever the kids can invent. Just how amazing these 7 pieces of cleverness can create. For older kids, they can explore Mathematics - Geometry, spatial awareness, fraction etc.

And when we heard of tangram coming onto tees, yes t-shirts for little kids, I was more than delighted to get Js try this innovative concept. I love how each creation is individual and prompts no right or wrong answers. It allows open-ended explorations, Jazz can make a dog one way and Jare can make it the other way. That's when we allow a child to take 'risks' since there's no correct way of doing it. A trait often neglected in a classroom setting.

Working on their creation

The Tangram Tee from fabricate.sg allows kids to form different patterns on the shirt as often as they like. Each shirt comes with seven reusable shapes (sticking on like velcro) that form the Tangram and there are well over 6,500 patterns documented to date. We can have a different shirt everyday! The Tangram shapes and T-shirts come in various colours too. So yeap, tell the kids to create whatever they like! And it shapes stay on firmly well.

White and blue tees with black and glittery fuchia letters

Made with 100% 190/gm cotton, the shirt is extremely soft and comfortable to put on. The tee comes with a set of tangram shapes in black ($29), contained within a sturdy resealable zip-lock bag for your storage convenience. You can trust these bags. Really good! To add on the fun, you may further purchase a set of alphabets (which also comes with numbers) at $8 per pack. There's just never ending fun and creation within.

Along with the Tee set comes with a sheet of picture ideas to help your child start out with tangram and some wash care instructions for the Mummy. And when I had my tangram go on the tees, I realized it can't be played dual side as the velcro is only one sided. It doesn't deter the fun, but keeps one thinking a little more. It's a good challenge.

Most happy with his creation
